Conditions for optometrist

Stockton-on-Tees optometrist Alan Young has been given a 12-month conditional registration order after a GOC fitness to practise committee found him guilty of misconduct.

It was alleged that in 2011, Young failed to carry out or record the details of a routine eye exam and contact lens aftercare. It was also alleged that he agreed to supply or order contact lenses without an in-date Rx and took a £110 payment for contact lenses which were never dispensed.

The committee noted that details of the patient’s Rx had been amended in her records but other details had not been recorded. It added that Young’s clinical aftercare was of an acceptable standard, with only record-keeping failures relating to slit-lamp microscopy.
