Conditions imposed on OO

A General Optical Council (GOC) fitness to practise committee has handed optometrist John Stevenson a 15-month conditional registration after allegations were made surrounding the clinical care of a number of patients with raised intraocular eye pressures, and record-keeping failures.

The committee said it was satisfied that workable and appropriate conditions, sufficient enough to protect the public, could be imposed and that there was no evidence of general incompetence on the part of the registrant.

As part of his conditional registration, Stevenson must attend a recognised course in the management of ocular hypertension, observe a clinic in a hospital eye department and hand over a random sample of patient records to an independent optometrist for inspection.
