Direct access for optical practices listed on NHS Choices has been secured by the Optical Confederation (OC) bypassing Primary Care Trusts reluctant to grant access rights to optometry contractors.
The NHS Choices website provides patients with information to enable them to choose an NHS provider and around two million people use the site each month. The website also allows patients to leave feedback on the quality of service they received at individual practices.
Once access has been granted, practices can upload information to the Choices website to illustrate the scope of services offered and market the practice. Access to the site also allows practices to manage feedback left by patients and customers.
