Confederation shows support for elderly

The Optical Confederation (OC) has joined the Age Action Alliance to promote vision and eye health among older people and will work with a range of partners to promote the role that good vision can play in keeping older people active for longer.

An independent alliance to improve the lives of older people, the Age Action Alliance has over 200 members including Age UK and The Royal National Institute for Blind People. Along with a number of government departments, they work together to share ideas and take practical steps to improve health, social inclusion, safety and workplaces for older people.

OC chair Don Grocott said: 'Good vision is of utmost importance to enable older people to stay in the workplace for longer, participate in the information age and maximise their independence and quality of life. As a sector we have a major role to play.'
