Conlons' stamp collection helps fund guide dog training

Since Christmas, staff at Cheshire-based Conlons Opticians have been busy collecting used stamps for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association's fund-raising appeal.

Customers and local schools have been asked to post their donations at stamp collection points, installed throughout the group's 18 practices in the North West and Scotland. Lisa Newman, branch manager at Conlons' Widnes, Cheshire practice, commented: 'We are delighted to continue our assistance with Guide Dogs for the Blind and realise that thousands of stamps are required.' As charity fundraiser Oliver Goldsmith explains: 'We have to collect 400 kilos of stamps for one puppy - that is the same as 20 suitcases filled with stamps. About 800 kilos or 40 suitcases goes towards the basic training, and a mammoth 2,000 kilos or 100 suitcases sponsors a guide dog and owner partnership.' If anyone would like to donate used stamps, contact Conlons' Widnes practice on: 0151 424 4277.
