Public responds to VAO appeal

Cheshire-based Conlons Opticians has joined up with optical charity Vision Aid Overseas to collect used spectacles to send to eye clinics in developing countries.

Staff at the group's 18 practices throughout the North West and Scotland, have been appealing to their customers to donate any unwanted spectacles. The collected eyewear will be sorted, graded and distributed to people in need by specialist volunteers of the charity. Lisa Newman, branch manager at Conlons' Widnes practice commented: 'We are delighted to be able to continue our assistance for such a worthwhile cause. It's amazing how many old pairs of spectacles our customers keep. By handing them in at Conlons, they are providing needy people in developing countries with a new lease of life. 'To us these old glasses are worth nothing, yet to those less fortunate individuals in poor countries, a new pair of spectacles is priceless. We are very grateful to all our customers who have generously donated to this charity,' Ms Newman added. If anyone would like to donate unwanted spectacles, contact Conlons' Widnes practice on: 0151 424 4277.
