An eight-week consultation on proposals to reform ophthalmic services delivered in primary care in Wales has been launched by the Welsh government.
Optometry Wales and professional optical bodies will review consultation feedback and provide an analysis.
In a statement, Optometry Wales said it was committed to reform and to delivering more clinical care outside hospitals through primary eye care practices, as well as enabling both optometry and dispensing optics to advance for the benefit of patients.
It said the current model of hospital eye care in Wales was unsustainable and the solution was to deliver services closer to home for patients by primary eye care contractors and practitioners.
