Contact lens sales increase

Sales of soft contact lenses across Europe rose by over 14% in 2021 to almost €2bn, according to the latest Euromcontact report.

The annual survey by the European contact lens industry body said sales across all soft lens types were €1.9bn, which was an increase of 14.3% on an ‘atypical’ 2020. The UK and Ireland region accounted for €350m of the total, a year-on-year growth of around 3.8%.

The report covered 21 million wearers across 34 countries and took data from seven suppliers. The reported figures covered the top 11 countries that make up around three-quarters of the total data collected.
