Optrafair saw the global launch of a new photochromic lens from Carl Zeiss Vision in PhotoFusion, which reacts 20 per cent faster to changes in light conditions than its existing photochromic lenses.
According to CZV, the lenses darken in 15-30 seconds and clear again in 5-10 minutes. It added that they were also very clear indoors, with 92 per cent transmission with anti-reflective coating, and very dark in sunlight - 11 percent transmission with anti-reflective coating. The lenses provide 100 per cent protection against UV rays up to 400nm.
The new self-tinting lenses are developed and produced in-house. Dr Markus H Haidl, the company's vice president of corporate research and design explained that market research conducted by the company indicated that spectacle wearers were in favour of self-tinting lenses in principle, but wanted faster tinting. He said currently, two in 10 spectacle wearers wear self-tinting lenses, but added in the future this figure could grow considerably.
