David Bonellie has been named as chair of Optometry Scotland.
The optometrist, of Bonellie Opticians in Ayrshire had previously spent two years as vice chair and replaces Sam Watson, who has stepped down after two years as chair.
On his new role, Bonellie said: ‘I am 100 per cent committed to representing both Optometry Scotland and our profession as a whole over the next two years. I will certainly do the best I can and I’m looking forward to working closely with the team going forward. Sam Watson has done a fantastic job over the past two years and she will be a hard act to follow.
‘We have come a long way in my 36 years as an optometrist with the introduction of the current General Ophthalmic Services contract and developing it across public health and delegated care initiatives where there is still a lot of work to do.’
Independent optometrist Nicola McElvanney has taken up the vice chair position.
