David Gould Opticians celebrates 20 years

Rossendale Valley-based independent David Gould Opticians celebrated its 20th anniversary on October 18.

The practice celebrated with a full clinic and optical themed cupcakes made by the neighbouring bakery, Molly Makes Cakes.

In 1992, David Gould started working at the original Rawtenstall practice, which was owned by Manchester group Blakes Optical, and he became the operations director in 1999.

‘In 2003, I made them an offer they could have refused, but it was accepted and I acquired the Rawtenstall and Haslingden practices from Blakes.

‘The Haslingden practice was refitted soon afterwards and the Rawtenstall practice was relocated out of a dilapidated shopping centre into a bigger building on the main shopping street in the town,’ Gould told Optician.

Gould, who was Optician’s Contact Lens Practitioner of the Year in 2013, said the biggest change in the last 20 years was the equipment used to deliver services, as well as myopia management.

‘I have a wonderful team working with me. Some of them were still at school when I started the business, but they keep me feeling younger than my 60 years.

'We will continue to invest in technology that will enable us to maintain the great reputation we have established over the last 20 years,’ Gould added.
