An awareness event in Northamptonshire has set out to raise the importance of regular eye tests.
Northamptonshire Eye Health Awareness Week took place from April 27 until May 2, organised by independent Davis Optometrists.
Kim Durden (pictured), a partner optometrist at Davis, said: ‘Eye sight is precious and needs respect, yet despite blindness being even more feared than cancer, AIDS, stroke, heart disease or diabetes, not enough people have eye tests.’
The campaign was backed by hospital eye departments and promoted to local schools. It flagged up statistics from LOCSU’s National Eye Health Epidemiological Model, showing 25,000 Northamptonshire people had impaired vision, including 43,319 with cataract, 9,000 with glaucoma and 15,224 suffering from AMD.
