Education targets were met by 97 per cent of optometrists and dispensing opticians during 2013 following the introduction of new CET rules.
A total of 580 registrants failed to meet their target for the year, with 258 not gaining any points at all. Another 224 registrants gained sufficient points but did not formally accept them in their online CET portfolio.
Registrants must earn at least six points towards their 36-point total for the 2013-15 cycle each year under the General Optical Council’s reforms.
Linda Ford, GOC head of education and standards, said: ‘We are very happy that almost all registrants have met their points requirement for 2013. This is a really encouraging start to the first cycle of the enhanced CET scheme and shows that most registrants have managed to adapt to the changes and meet the new requirements.
