Denver hosts Academy conference

Despite record numbers of exhibitors, delegate numbers were down somewhat on previous years, partly explained by severe weather conditions in the preceding week.

Alongside the usual array of lectures and workshops, CIBA Vision chose the conference to launch its new O2Optix Custom, a silicone hydrogel lens to be available in January in a greatly extended range of powers and fitting parameters.

Eschenbach displayed the latest magnifiers using the new much-reduced in size SMD-LED light sources.

Rapid Pathogen Screening Inc introduced the RPS Adeno Detector. Similar in design to a pregnancy indicator, it allows rapid assessment of the discharge from suspect viral conjunctivitis patients to detect those with adenovirus, so allowing the optometrist to give appropriate hygiene advice and avoid inappropriate referral.
