Fifth of diabetes patients have not had an eye test for more than a year

A fifth of diabetes patients have not had an eye test for more than a year despite 40% being concerned about their eye health.

A survey carried out by healthcare marketing communications agency Onyx Health, to coincide with Diabetes Week from June 12 to June 18, also found the majority would see an optometrist if their sight worsened, with GPs and hospital ophthalmologists ranking in second and third place.

In total, 47% would be willing to pay for a new and proven treatment for diabetes related sight conditions, while 40 percent would prefer to wait until a treatment became available on the NHS.
