gocA suspension order placed on dispensing optician Graham Bodman has been allowed to expire by a General Optical Council fitness to practise committee.

Bodman was suspended in January 2012 after he failed to declare a drink driving conviction in 2011 – having already been given a warning from an investigation committee about a previous drinking conviction. He was handed an 18-month suspension, which was later extended in July 2013 by nine months to March 18 2014 after an application to the high court.

At last week’s fifth review hearing, the committee said an interim order was no longer necessary for the protection of the public alone and was disproportionate to protect public interest. It ordered no further review.
