DO suspended after arrest

A dispensing optician arrested on suspicion of wounding and inflicting grievous bodily harm has been given an 18-month interim suspension order by a General Optical Council fitness to practise committee.

At a hearing held in private to protect the identity of the victim, the committee said it was notified by Essex Police that Brian Davies had been arrested on May 31 2013. The notification from the police said the registrant’s arrest was related to events between 2003 and 2012. The circumstances were not disclosed.

‘The committee has taken into account both the serious nature of the allegations and the fact that these are, at this stage, allegations only,’ said a GOC statement.
