A GOC fitness to practise panel has imposed an interim order of suspension of 18 months on a dispensing optician who is due to appear before Leeds Crown Court over allegations of two separate sexual offences.

John David Gill, who was not present at the August 19 hearing, faces two separate allegations - one involving a female child patient and one concerning female members of the public passing his professional practice premises.

The panel heard that Gill has been charged with the offences under the Sexual Offences Act 2003 and is due to stand trial on November 2009. The committee also accepted the information that when the police examined the registrant's personal computer, images were found of women, including his professional receptionist, whom he had photographed without their knowledge or consent. Gill explained to the police that he looked at the images at times because he found the women attractive.
