A dispensing optician who stole spectacles and contact lenses worth about £5,000 has been banned from practising for 12 months by a GOC fitness to practise panel.

The disciplinary panel imposed the ban after hearing that Dalvir Kaur Kallar, who worked for Cotton and Hamblin in Woolwich at the time of the offences, had previously received a two-year discharge at Woolwich Crown Court for 29 offences.

The hearing was told that between December 2003 and August 2006 the dispensing optician stole spectacles from her employer on around 20 occasions and between February 2005 and July 2006 she stole contact lenses on six occasions.
