Dogs helps raise money for Moorfields

Hundreds of walkers and their dogs take part in Eye to Eye fundraising walk

Hundreds of walkers and their dogs took part in this year’s Eye to Eye fundraising walk from Moorfields Eye Hospital to the London Eye.

Run by Moorfields Eye Charity (MEC), the Eye to Eye event is expected to raise over £150,000 which will go towards glaucoma and macular degeneration research.

Since the event’s creation three years ago, donations have helped support research projects on the genetics of keratoconus and the impact of diabetic retinopathy on the structure and function of the eye.

Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust CEO David Probert said: ‘I thoroughly enjoyed my first Eye to Eye walk and was bowled over by how passionate and energetic everyone was despite the grey weather. My thanks and congratulations go to Moorfields Eye Charity for all their hard work with the event and their continued support for the trust’s research projects. Eye to Eye is a brilliant event and I look forward to taking part again next year.’

It was the first year that the dogs, three of which were guide dogs, were able to take part in the walk.
