Dorset partners celebrate 120 years

Established in 1882 at 2 St Thomas Street, Weymouth, the group expanded, under the management of the founder's son Alexander Jackson Brown, with branches opening in Swanage in 1938 and Bridport in 1954. A fourth practice in Dorchester won optician's Practice of the Year award in 1997, in recognition of the group's high eye care standards.
Optometrist partners Alun Beaven and Paul Wallis have celebrated the anniversary with this year's relocation to larger premises in Weymouth. During the move an attic full of optical antiquities dating back to the 19th century was uncovered, including a letter of complaint from 1898 regarding a pince nez Ð the group claims this was its last letter of complaint.
