A GP who killed a pensioner while speeding in his Porsche had failed to follow a specialist's advice to notify the DVLA that his sight could be affecting his driving, Basildon Crown Court has heard.

Dr Aloke Basu, who denied dangerous driving, was reported to have failed to brake when a pensioner crossed the road in front of him in Southend last February, according to the Daily Mail (May 4).

Basu had been receiving treatment for glaucoma since 2000 and, on contacting the DVLA after the accident, he had his licence revoked when he was found to have such 'severely impaired vision' in one eye that he could not read the top line of letters in a close-range vision test, with his other eye a 'borderline fail'.
