MPs and peers heard Simon Keightley, consultant ophthalmologist and former chair of the Department of Transport Medical Advisory Panel, assert that the current number plate test was easy to apply and there was no specific evidence to show visual acuity alone was responsible for unsafe driving.
Other speakers included Dr Christine Dickinson, senior lecturer at the Department of Optometry and Neuroscience, Umist and Professor Gary Rubin, Helen Keller Professor of Visual Rehabilitation at the Institute of Ophthalmology.
The date of the group's next meeting is Tuesday October 28.
