Former Association of British Dispensing Opticians president Barry Duncan will rejoin the organisation next year in a newly created role assisting members in the regions.
Duncan, who served as president from 2008 to 2010, will become a full-time member of the ABDO Membership Services department. The job involves the development of the profession, working with the Local Optical Society Support Unit and liaising with Optometry Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
General secretary Sir Tony Garrett welcomed Duncan back to the organisation and said he won the role in the face of stiff competition from other applicants. 'His political and negotiating skills, will strengthen the Association's representation and interface with other optical bodies,' he said.
