DVLA changes explained further

Eye health

Further details have been provided on the enforcement of a new visual acuity standard for drivers (News 11.05.12).

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) confirmed car and motorcycle learners were being asked to confirm they met the new Snellen standard of 6/12 via a tick box 'on all relevant DVLA forms'. This read: 'Can you read a car number plate from 20 metres and confirm that you have not been advised by an optician or doctor that your eyesight does not meet the minimum standards for driving.'

A letter has also been sent out to DVLA-franchised practices to explain the changes, imposed at the beginning of May.
