DVLA opens healthcare consultation

Regulation

A call for evidence has been proposed by the UK Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) in a review of driver licensing for people with medical conditions, closing October 22.

The open consultation said that as the volume and complexity of driving licence applications or renewals where the applicant has one or more medical condition increases, the government believes that the time is right to review the existing legal framework.

Areas of discussion include medical licensing costs, impacts of an aging population, and implications around AI and machine learning in medical licensing and driving.

Richard Holden MP, minister for Roads and Local Transport, said: 'The aim of this call for evidence is to tap into a wide range of experience, views, and research to help us to identify areas where policy or legislative changes may be able to improve outcomes for drivers and other road users.'
