Responses have been published by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) following its consultation on extending medical licences – with the vast majority in favour of new proposals.

The DVLA has proposed to extend licensing periods for drivers with medical conditions, which include visual impairments, from every three years currently to longer periods of up to 10 years where the medical condition was suitable.

It said that following the targeted consultation, a change in the law was currently under consideration in Parliament.

The DVLA added that overall reaction from the consultation was positive, with 81.4 per cent of replies agreeing with the proposal.
