The European Academy of Optometry and Optics (EAOO) is to launch an online learning management system for its members across Europe.

Speaking at the sixth annual EAOO conference, held in Warsaw, Poland last weekend (May 16-18), academy trustee Professor Roger Anderson said that Academy Online was the first such platform specifically built to network training in optometry and optics around Europe.

Currently in development, the system was geared towards continuing education but could also be used for undergraduate and postgraduate training, he said. It will undergo pilot testing this summer and is expected to be launched in September.

Professor Anderson of the University of Ulster and chair of the EAOO education committee was one of five academy members to be awarded Fellowship in recognition of their contribution to optometry or optics at a local, national or international level. London optometrist Dr Simon Barnard was also among the new Fellows.
