Edinburgh ophthalmologist sends Ukraine supplies

NHS Lothian ophthalmologist coordinated the delivery of optical donations to ophthalmology departments caring for children's eyesight in Ukraine, reported Edinburgh Live.

Dr Peter Cackett, consultant ophthalmologist at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion at Edinburgh's NHS Lothian hospital, collected specialist lights and cameras for examinations and vision tests.

Edinburgh and Dundee final year medical students delivered the supplies by van to Ukraine, where they were distributed to 320 paediatric ophthalmology departments across the country, as requested by Professor Sergiy Rykov, president of the Association of Paediatric Ophthalmologists of Ukraine, Kyiv.

Dr Cackett has already started collecting more equipment and is looking into potentially providing eye care assistance to Ukrainian refugees in Romania.
