EIS appoints Eric Hall to new position

The immediate past-president of the Association of British Dispensing Opticians, Eric Hall, has become the Eyecare Information Service's first vice-chairman.

Mr Hall, a long-standing director of the EIS, said he would work closely with the communications body's chairman Ruth Gans Cole. 'The work of the EIS has become increasingly effective under her chairmanship,' he said, 'and I am constantly amazed by what she has achieved within a relatively constrained budget. 'As the EIS moves towards becoming a charity I believe it will have a more important role than ever to play in the generic promotion of optics, and I shall be doing everything I can to help achieve our increasingly ambitious goals.' Ms Cole said: 'Everyone who has come into contact with Eric during his time at ABDO will know how effective he can be in taking an organisation forward. 'As an EIS director, he has already been instrumental in re-shaping the service and I am confident that in his new role he will make a major contribution to our future success.' - In a separate development, the Federation of Manufacturing Opticians has appointed Ms Gans Cole as its vice-chairman. The appointment was confirmed at the FMO Council meeting on January 24. Chairman Kingsley Sleep welcomed the decision. 'Ruth has made a great contribution to the FMO over many years and I am delighted that we will be working together to ensure its continued success.'
