Her departure, which follows that of EIS's chief executive and communications manager, has left the future of the promotional body for optics in fresh doubt. It also raises questions about the nature of the new group she has left to lead. As optician went to press there was little detail of the direction of the Federation of Manufacturing Opticians new 'marketing and communications group', which Ms Gans Cole will be heading. But Ms Gans Cole told optician: 'I'm offering my resignation because I feel I would be in a very difficult position handling the two roles. There must be a contradiction.' After the FMO asked her to fulfil the new role on Tuesday this week, as FMO representative on EIS's board Ms Gans Cole said she 'didn't really have a choice'. Nevertheless, she said it was possible that the FMO might ask her to represent it on the EIS board in future.
