Newly-qualified DO Eleanor Hill is crowned UK’s youngest optician

Newly-qualified dispensing optician Eleanor Hill has been crowned the country’s youngest optician.

The 19-year-old, who works at Benjamin Opticians in Skipton, was contacted by the GOC shortly after qualifying to congratulate her on the achievement.

She said: ‘I’m just happy I qualified after all the hard work. It’s been a tough three years and exams are always a challenge. Lots of good things have happened, and mostly, I’ve come out of it with a secure job that I love.’

Hill used to visit Benjamin’s Opticians with her mother to have her contact lens checked, and because of her natural interest in the occupation, secured a Saturday job at the practice at 15-years-old.
