Members of the last ever elected board of the General Optical Council (GOC) met last Thursday to approve measures they would like the new Council, which came into effect on April 1, to take forward.
Members of the new Council appointed by the independent Appointments Commission (see panel) were due to meet on April 2 after Optician went to press.
At last week's meeting, members were asked to approve the business plan for 2009/10 with the understanding that it was subject to change by the new Council.
Chair Geoff Harris told members that in their approval of the current business plan there was recognition for all their efforts and an indication of the work they would like the new Council to undertake in the coming year. 'I do recognise that in approving it you are actually handing it to another body who might take a different view,' he said.
