Optical bodies have welcomed the appointment of 11 new Council members to the reconstituted board of the General Optical Council.
As well as College of Optometrists presidentDr Rob Hogan and immediate past president Kevin Lewis, other members include optometrists Paul Carroll and Nicholas Rumney and DOs Liam Kite and James Russell.
Aside from GOC chair Geoff Harris, the five other lay members are Morag Alexander, Anna Bradley, Brian Coulter, Peter Douglas and Fiona Peel.
Dr Hogan said: 'This is an exciting opportunity to promote good eye care and to help the GOC to achieve a proportionate balance and transparency in the regulation of the optical professions and to take appropriate and decisive action when and where required.'
