
Optical associations have voiced disappointment over the NHS’ decision to end free flu vaccinations for primary healthcare workers for 2022/23.
NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSE/I) announced that the responsibility of providing seasonal flu vaccinations will return to the employer as part of the next phase of ‘Living with Covid-19', with the exception of certain primary and social workers without occupational health benefits.
In response, Jo Holmes, president at the Association of Dispensing Opticians, commented: ‘This is very disappointing considering the optical profession are part of the primary care workforce, on the frontline delivering vital NHS eye health care. All vaccinations that can contribute to preventing staff and patients from contracting or transmitting disease whilst delivering and accessing health care should be made available to NHS workers by the NHS.’
