Environmental benefits highlighted

Optical Express has launched a campaign to highlight the environmental positives of laser eye surgery

Optical Express has launched a campaign to highlight the environmental positives of laser eye surgery as opposed to plastic contact lenses and glasses.

As part of the campaign, the company planned to offer thousands of optometrists in the UK either free laser eye surgery or intraocular lens surgery. While free, Optical Express has said it would appreciate recipients of the surgery to donate to environmental charity Ocean Generation.

The campaign highlighted that over 750 million plastic contact lenses are flushed down the drain in the UK every year, ending up in the oceans. David Moulsdale, Optical Express founder and CEO, said: ‘The environmental impact of the eye care sector is less scrutinised than some other industries, but it is still causing serious damage to our planet which we urgently need to address.’
