Essilor launches Road Pilot ophthalmic driving lens

Essilor has entered the burgeoning ophthalmic driving lens category with the launch of the Road Pilot lens.

The lens introduces the Crizal Drive anti-reflective coating, said to reduce glare from dashboards, modern headlights, street lights, traffic lights with up to 90% less reflections than a simple hard coat.

It is available within single vision and Varilux forms, each tailored to deliver optimum performance through lens design and coating. Transitions XTRActive, which adapts to varying light conditions when behind a windscreen, can also be specified, making a fully-loaded lens a viable option for 24-7 driving requirements.

Essilor commercial director Randeep Gill said: ‘Driving without decent glare protection is risky and stressful. Statistics show night-time driving is the period when most accidents happen, when 17m UK drivers say they struggle to see and when 31% of UK motorists refuse to drive.

‘The lens can be recommended for safety, comfort and confidence, but also improved driving given impaired vision means slower reaction times behind the wheel. It’s giving the patient something new and filling a real need.’

The product is offered with a two-year anti-scratch guarantee for the Crizal lenses, the Love ’em or Leave ’em guarantee when ordering Transitions XTRActive and a Varilux non-adaptation guarantee
