World Rally Championship star Jari-Matti Latvala and Essilor Finland have released details of a year-long partnership which has seen the lens manufacturer develop four pairs of driving glasses for competition use.
'We provided Jari-Matti Latvala with four driving glasses that improve his vision in all conditions. We aimed to find the optimum solution by using as few as possible lenses. This was because changing eyeglasses in the middle of a race is not an option for rally drivers,' said Vesa Vaine, optician and country manager at Essilor Finland.
Specialised Essilor development lenses were used in the glasses, each tailored to different light conditions: bright (Orma Crizal Forte), yellow (Orma Kiros Crizal Forte), brown (Orma Extreme Crizal Forte) and Inuit Optifog Sun, for fog-free vision in awkward climatic conditions.
