Essilor recently received guests from the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers (SMC) on a visit to its Thornbury manufacturing site.
The formal visit by the master, wardens, deputy master and the clerk was in recognition of Essilor staff from the customer services and quality control departments who successfully completed the SMC level two Certificate in Optical Practice Support.
The company is described as the first spectacle lens manufacturing firm to block book staff onto the course, with all remaining customer services staff now studying for the certificate.
Managing director Michel Crombe said: 'The development of employees is one of Essilor's key objectives and the company is very pleased to be able to take advantage of the training and qualification opportunities offered by the SMC.'
SMC guests were given a guided tour of the manufacturing plant and attended a feedback session relating how the course could be tailored specifically to optical customer service staff.
The level three Certificate in Optical Practice Support was also discussed.
Master Nigel Wingate thanked Essilor for its support and praised the company's commitment to training.
