Representatives from the optical industry held a lunch at the European Parliament in Strasbourg earlier this month to stress the importance of drivers' vision to MEPs.
Eurom 1, the European federation of optical industry bodies, secured Jim Higgins, an Irish Member of the European Parliament and member of the transport committee, to host the event which provided MEPs with information about the importance of vision in driving.
Professor Renato Pocaterra, an eye care professional and researcher at the University of Milan, revealed a direct causal link with visual perception in 59 per cent of road accidents from an analysis of national statistics.
