In the future, conditions such as glaucoma will increasingly be managed by optometrists working in the community, because of the framework changes underway in Scotland, Frank Munro, chairman of Optometry Scotland told conference delegates.
During his presentation on community eye care in Scotland, Munro explained that Optometry Scotland was formed in 2003 and in a relatively short period of time had achieved the introduction of free universal eye exams funded by the state for all and a favourable GOS contact.
Munro told delegates that the next step was to make optometrists the first port for call to manage eye diseases such as glaucoma.
