
More than five million sight tests were planned to take place on World Sight Day after pledges were made to the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB).
The United Nations said World Sight Day provided an opportunity to celebrate progress in eye care, global public health and development agendas.
‘We must strengthen cross sector partnerships with education, social services, labour, and the private sector to improve eye health for all. Let us work together on World Sight Day, and every day, towards a world where everyone can fulfil their potential and live their lives on an equal basis with others,’ Amina J Mohammed, deputy general secretary of the UN, commented.
