Disappointment has been expressed by the Optometric Fees Review Committee (OFRC) over the government's decision to once again freeze NHS sight test fees this year.
It follows a continuation of the £20.70 fee last year (News 01.07.11) too.
An increase in grants for CET and pre-registration students' supervisors was welcomed by the committee though.
This 2.5 per cent increase - lifting payments to £503 for CET and £3,245 for supervisors - has been backdated to April 1 2012 and follows the same increase for voucher values earlier this year (News 02.03.12).
OFRC chair Claire Slade said: 'In line with the current public sector pay freeze, the government has once again decided not to increase GOS sight test fees. This is of course extremely disappointing, and the Department of Health has been left in no doubt about our views on the inadequacy of the sight test fee.
