A slight increase in General Ophthalmic Services (GOS) fees will be introduced from next month but disappointed negotiators for the profession.
The Optometric Fees Review Committee (OFRC) reached agreement with the DoH for 2013-14 fees late last week.
GOS fees, which have been stuck on £20.70 for the past few years, will edge up 1 per cent from April 1.
It was also agreed that the continuing education and training (CET) grant would increase by 2.5 per cent, while a grant for training pre-registration optometrists would also rise 2.5 per cent.
The increases were exempt from the government's 4 per cent efficiency target.
