Key findings from a project focused on re-designing community eye care and advice for setting up local networks will be shared with delegates at next month’s Vision UK conference.

‘It’s becoming obvious people are falling through the gaps,’ speaker Lesley Adams told Optician ahead of the event.

Adams has been working with South Devon and Torbay’s Clinical Commissioning Group as part of the UK Vision Strategy’s Commissioning for Effectiveness and Efficiency (CEE) project, funded by the government since March 2012.

Collecting better data and having joined-up pathways using eye clinic liaison officers were two of the key learnings from the region, Adams said.

She added: ‘We really do need better data to know the prevalence rates of different types of sight loss in each area. We would like to know right from the beginning who is being referred where.’
