The Eyecare Trust is urging practitioners to support its Sight after Sixty campaign and promote the importance of regular eye care for the over-60s during National Eye Week which takes place from December 10-16.

Practices across the country will be sent posters and details of the initiative in a mailing sponsored by the Norville Group in a bid to heighten awareness of the campaign. The posters will feature actress Nanette Newman, who was recently unveiled as the face of National Eye Week 2007. Promotional material should be with practitioners by the week commencing December 3.

'Poor uncorrected vision can have a significant impact on our social and physical well-being,' said the Eyecare Trust. 'However, research figures suggest that more than four million OAPs miss out on vital sight tests every year - despite the fact that eye examinations for the over 60s have been free on the NHS since April 1999.'
