Last year, 16 runners raised over £20,000 for the charity and this year's team aim to succeed this target.

Acton said: 'I thought this would be a really good way to show my commitment to the charity and hopefully rally more people into supporting us too. It will also be a great personal challenge for me which I hope will be reflected in the sponsorship. The more money that we raise the more that will be available to fund the many exciting research projects being supported by the charity.'

Katie Harrop, optometrist for Eyesite in Brighton and professional services manager for No7 contact lenses, is also taking part in the marathon this April for Fight for Sight and said: 'Working as an optometrist means that I see many people who are suffering from eye diseases and it is incredibly sad and frustrating when nothing can be done for these people. My grandmother suffered from AMD for 15 years before she died and it was very distressing for her to go from an active, independent person to someone who lost the ability to do many of the things she loved. I would love to be able to help these people and Fight for Sight is trying to do this too.'
