Fiona Anderson begins her term as Association of British Dispensing Opticians president, taking over from Peter Black

Fiona Anderson began her

term as Association of British Dispensing Opticians (Abdo) president last week after a handover ceremony during the 2016 Abdo gala dinner at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole on April 10.

Anderson took time during

her inaugural address to thank outgoing president Peter Black

for his hard work during his three-year tenure and handed over vice presidency to Clive Marchant. During what was described by Abdo as a ‘moving’ outgoing speech, Black announced that he would not be seeking to stand for re-election in the forthcoming Abdo board election.

Special lifelong membership awards were presented to Kevin Milsom, Huntly Taylor and Paula Stevens. Thurailingam Pavanakumar was awarded honorary fellowship and Gil Smith was awarded the Hamblin Memorial Prize by Boots Opticians ?director of professional standards and central operations Eddie Watson.
