Orange Eyewear has launched a range of glow-in-the-dark frames for children, called Firefly.

Using ground-breaking patented technology, developed over three years, Firefly frames are the first of a kind to glow across the whole eye area, said the Manchester-based company.

And the longer the unisex frames are subjected to daylight, the longer they glow for at night, the company added.

Available in stainless steel and memory metal, the novelty frames come in six styles, which will be regularly updated, and four colour options: brown, blue, pink and gun.

'The Firefly frames are quite revolutionary, and a brilliant talking point for kids,' said Orange Eyewear managing director Hanna Nussbaum.
'The reaction from independent practices has been fantastic <2212> it seems kids go mad for the frames.

'They're particularly useful for introducing an element of fun to children's eye examinations: producing a luminous pair of frames in a darkened test room entertains kids of all ages.'
