A fifth of UK employers have been found to have no eye care policy whatsoever in place for their staff.
Feedback from 223 company bosses also showed that 42 per cent of those with a policy had opted to reimburse eye care costs via expense claims.
The research, conducted jointly by multiple Specsavers Corporate Eyecare and Pay & Benefits magazine, showed that 33 per cent of employers purchased eye care vouchers. However, 62 per cent of firms did not know what additional benefits they currently receive from their eye care provider.
Jim Lythgow, director of strategic alliances at Specsavers Corporate Eyecare, said: 'Our research shows that a greater knowledge of corporate eye care could result in more affordable, administratively simpler options and the ability to offer employees increased, tangible benefits.'
